NEW Subscriber Benefit!

June 17, 2022 By nikitajoshi

Start a Code Club at your supplementary school.

We have partnered with Raspberry Pi Foundation to bring you Code Club – a new FREE activity for your supplementary school! This is the latest addition to the outstanding support package available for NRCSE subscribers.

Code Club is a global network of educator and volunteer-led coding clubs for young people aged 9–13. Using Code Club’s free step-by-step projects, you can support young people at your school to make their own games, animations, and websites with code.

What will children learn?

Code Club’s projects introduce coding concepts one-by-one and let young people progressively build their knowledge in Scratch, HTML and CSS, and Python. Anyone can run a club – from coding experts, to total beginners – and many club leaders learn to code alongside their students.

Code Club’s projects are also translated into many different languages, meaning you can choose to run your sessions in a language other than English.

What does a typical Code Club look like?

Code Clubs are fun, relaxed spaces where young people can be creative with code. They are designed to be easy to run and flexible to suit your needs.

A typical Code Club:

●  Runs for an hour a week outside of normal school time
●  Is hosted by an educator, sometimes with the support of a volunteer
●  Supports an average of 10 to 15 children to learn to code
●  Requires an internet connection
●  Runs with the existing hardware at your venue, for example Chromebooks, laptops,or tablets

How can I find out more?

Keep an eye out for an information session in July to learn about how you can start a Code Club at your school!

You can also head to codeclub.org to learn more and register your school, or reach out to the Code Club team with your questions at support@codeclub.org

NRCSE Conference 2022

May 17, 2022 By nikitajoshi

The NRCSE Supplementary Schools Conference called “Creativity, Youth Voice and Awards” was held on 24 March at Resource for London where 80 participants joined online and in person! It was a fantastic day where we celebrated the achievements of supplementary schools and shared our learning.

There were some great presentations from a few supplementary schools who shared the work they’ve been doing, including how they have implemented our Creative Teaching and Learning Project and Children’s rights training in their schools. Thank you to Clube dos Brasileirinhos , Latin American House , Rustam School and Shoqata Ardhmëria UK.

Participants were also able to attend a workshop taster session of our Creative Teaching and Learning Project with Patrice Baldwin or our Children’s Rights Training in partnership with UNICEF UK.

During the day, we were also able to celebrate the schools who have worked hard and recently have achieved their Quality Mark Award, as well as during the pandemic!

It was great to be together after so long and celebrate the amazing people and work done in the sector. If you weren’t able to join us, we hope to see you at our next event!

Update from NRCSE and YPF Trust

March 18, 2022 By nikitajoshi

National Resource centre for supplementary education

We are delighted to announce that in April 2022 the YPF Trust and NRCSE are coming together in support of supplementary schools and out of school settings.

The work, staff and resources of NRCSE will move across to YPF Trust and form the foundations of a new and exciting programme of work building on the legacy of place-based investment and community support provided by NRCSE since 2012, reaching thousands of children and young people across the country.

The supplementary education sector is a vital part of many children, young people and community’s lives across the country – yet the work remains undervalued and under-resourced.

We are committed to championing this work, supporting the sustainability and growth of the sector and ensuring that supplementary education is at the heart of local and national solutions to the challenges many children and young people face.

We believe that YPF Trust is the ideal home for supplementary education support in the future and will enable this work to thrive alongside our ambitious plans for the future of the Young People’s Foundation network.

Vicky Gough, Chair of Trustees at NRCSE said:

“On behalf of the Trustees of the NRCSE I welcome this exciting move which we think will provide a secure foundation for the important work of sustaining and developing the supplementary education sector.  We would like to pay tribute to Pascale Vassie who set up the NRCSE and whose legacy will continue with this ambitious development.”

Justin Watson, CEO of YPF Trust said:

“This is exciting time for YPF Trust and I am delighted that we are able to grow our commitment to children, young people and communities at a local level through our work with NRCSE – we are really looking forward to working with others to champion and support supplementary education in the future”

NRCSE support community-led supplementary schools and the wider supplementary education sector across England, including at the British Somali Community supplementary school.

Mohiadin Wagad, their Coordinator, said:

“We regularly benefit from the training and meetings organised by the NRCSE.  We currently have 80 students attending our program, we also hold workshops for their parents on monthly basis on programmes such as supporting children at home, online safety, mental health awareness, crime awareness programs. The number of families requesting to join our school is increasing day by day”

In the short term, the offer from NRCSE will not change, and over time we will seek to grow the offer through YPF Trust and build new partnerships and collaborations locally and nationally which are led by communities and centred on outstanding opportunities for all children and people.

If you would like to get involved or know more then we would love to hear from you – please do contact Justin – justin@ypftrust.org.uk

What Supplementary Schools tell about us

The NRCSE course was one of the most effecient and effective training course , because as  home language teacher I wasn’t familiar with students different leaning styles and differentiating the handouts according to the students abilities or evaluating my own lessons. NRCSE courses give confident how to teach home language subjects in a professional manner
